Nina Higgins, MD
Reproductive Psychiatrist
Nina E. Higgins, M.D., is a board-certified reproductive psychiatrist specializing in perinatal mental health, and she has worked in this field for the last 10 years. She completed her Women’s Mental Health Fellowship at Brown University and joined the University of New Mexico in 2017, where she now serves as the Medical Director for Reproductive Psychiatry and Perinatal Mental Health and founded the UNM Reproductive Psychiatry Fellowship, leading to expanded perinatal mental health services across New Mexico. She is the first author of “Perinatal Depression Treatment Guidelines for Obstetric Providers” and the senior author of a case report proposing an emergency evaluation algorithm for postpartum psychosis. A recognized expert, Dr. Higgins is frequently consulted by multidisciplinary teams, provides invited lectures on perinatal mental health, and has contributed to statewide maternal mortality prevention and perinatal depression screening initiatives. Dr. Higgins is excited to join The Motherhood Center of New York.
